From 10th November, there will be an EU border scheme known as the Entry/Exit System (ESS).
The ESS will mean strict digital border controls at every single airport, harbour or road into Europe.
These rules will help ensure people do not stay too long without having the necessary official requirements.
Under the ESS, people will have to provide a photo, passport details and their fingerprints. The initial registration will be valid for 3 years and will effectively replace passport stamping and every time someone crosses a border during the 3-year period, it will be validated again.
From “early next year”, the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (Etias) will come into effect. A visa waiver form will need to be completed, and it is anticipated there will be a small fee for this.
